Pre-register for Starting in a Good Way Retreat
April 18, 2025
There are many possible futures for each of us, for our communities, for the things and people we love. Some of these futures are more probable than others, some further off and some closer at hand. We can imagine, for example, planning powerful learning experiences for our students each semester while also imagining the world our great-great-grandchildren might live in. In both these scenarios, we are responsible for both imagining and contributing to those futures. As writer and artist Tricia Hersey reminds us, “We’re working and living in two worlds here: the one we were born into and the one we’re trying to create.â€
In this full-day retreat Aug. 14 at Chena River Public Use Cabin, UAF faculty and staff will come together for a time travel adventure, where we explore our pasts, imagine multiple futures, and collaborate in play and dialogue to root ourselves with conviction in our purpose in the present. Through a series of facilitated activities, we will prepare to start our academic years in a good, connected, hopeful way.
